Strike over attack on family of Pakistan politician

Salt Lake City Sun (IANS) Saturday 4th February, 2012

A strike was observed Saturday in a southwestern Pakistani province against the killing of wife and daughter of an assembly member earlier this week.

Balochistan assembly member Bakhtiar Khan Domki's family was attacked Monday night in Gizri area of Karachi. Their driver was also killed, The News reported.

The strike was called by the Balochistan National Party.

Sibi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Panjgur and Dera Bugti areas of the province remained closed. The Quetta highway was also closed.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik Friday apprised the senate about the murder and termed the killing a conspiracy against the country.

Malik said it was not an ordinary incident and the conspirators would not be spared, Dawn reported.

"Whenever we head towards positive development in Balochistan such things start happening," he said adding that it was an attempt to disrupt peace in the province.
