Mayor shot at in the Philippines

A mayor of a Philippines town was Saturday shot at by motorcycle-borne gunmen, police said.

Restituto Abad, mayor of Carranglan town, and his driver were wounded in the attack in Saranay village in Guimba town, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Abad sustained gunshot wounds on his left armpit and shoulder, while his driver was shot on his neck and head, he said. The two were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

One suspect has been arrested, while another who shot the victims managed to escape, he said.
