2 Golden Globe noms for Scarlett
Salt Lake City Sun Thursday 18th December, 2003
American actress Scarlett Johansson was honored Thursday with Golden Globe nominations for her performances in two vastly different films.
The 19-year-old actress was nominated for best actress for the 17th century Vermeer drama Girl With a Pearl Earring and the stranger-in-a-strange-land comedy Lost in Translation.
Girl With a Pearl Earring was an amazing script, Johansson told UPI's Karen Butler.
It was so visually stimulating in your head. When you were reading it, you could see everything right before you. It was so atmospheric. There was nothing excessive about it. There was no cheesy dialogue ... There was no explanation. It was all apparent on the page.
As for Lost in Translation, The script was so beautiful, Johansson added. "It was like reading a beautiful short story and we pretty much shot the script that Sofia (Coppola) wrote. There were no revisions. ...
I think people appreciate that it's not dumbed down. It resonates with people because that feeling of reassessing your happiness and your lifestyle and then feeling like all of a sudden feeling like: 'Something's missing and I don't know what it is.' It's very scary. I think people as they grow come across this feeling.
