Veteran infielder Daniel Descalso will be just a phone call away for the Minnesota Twins after the club signed the 34-year old to a minor league deal Thursday.
Descalso will now suit up for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints after not playing at all last season because of an ankle injury. He has 10 years of experience in the major leagues, most recently with the Chicago Cubs, who bought out the 2021 portion of his contract for $1 million.
Descalso batted just .173 for the Cubs in 2019, with two home runs and 15 RBIs. He is a career .235 hitter with 48 home runs and 294 RBIs over 10 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (2010-14), Colorado Rockies (2015-16), Arizona Diamondbacks (2017-18) and Cubs.
Known for his versatility on defense, Descalso has played in at least 179 games at second base, third base and shortstop. He as played every position in the major leagues except center field and catcher.
