BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.1 percent to 3,110.48 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.05 percent higher at 10,109.53 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 717.2 billion yuan (about 99.9 billion U.S. dollars), up from 716.5 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the education and food manufacturing sectors led the gains, while those of insurance companies suffered heavy losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.12 percent to close at 2,003.91 points Thursday.
