SHANGHAI, China: Warner Bros has partnered with Chinese hospitality giant Jinjiang International to develop a Harry Potter Studio Tour in Shanghai, the company has announced.
Jinjiang revealed on social media that the attraction will provide visitors with an immersive, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Harry Potter films and recreate iconic scenes from the beloved franchise. The tour, which will span over 53,000 square meters, will be a key feature of a large-scale renovation of an existing Shanghai theme park operated by Jinjiang.
The project, scheduled to open in 2027, is still awaiting regulatory approval. If approved, it will become the third Harry Potter Studio Tour in the world, following similar attractions in London and Tokyo.
China has been a significant market for the Harry Potter franchise, despite the country's strict quotas on foreign films and a growing emphasis on local content. The Harry Potter films remain hugely popular in China, with all eight movies re-released in Chinese cinemas last year.
In addition to this new studio tour, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is already a major attraction at Universal Studios Beijing, featuring rides and experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling's bestselling books.
